NEWS February 15, 2005 ATHEROS Partners With ADIMOS to Optimize Wireless Video Modules for 802.11 WLAN Home Entertainment Systems Adimos ADM100 Integrated With Atheros Wireless Technology Supports Production Ramp of Cost-Effective Modules for Wireless DVDs and Wireless Digital Television MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 15, 2005 -- Adimos, a leading provider of wireless multimedia processor solutions for consumer electronics, announced today its partnership with Atheros Communications Inc (NasdaqNM:ATHR - News), a leading developer of advanced wireless LAN (WLAN) chipsets. Together, the companies will be begin mass production of 802.11a 5 Gigahertz-based Wireless Video Modules (WVM) for multiple consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers such as Toshiba, Konka, Visart, Onkyo, Gigafast and others. Through an optimized adaptive architecture, leveraging Adimos' multimedia processors with Atheros' advanced WLAN chipsets, the Wireless Video Modules achieve up to 50 meters of range through three walls while maintaining "wireline quality" robust streaming video. The ADM100 employs a range of adaptive video-optimized processing functions to realize superior video results using standard WLAN chipsets. The unique video-optimization approach, dubbed Best Picture(TM) technology, results in seamless wireless connectivity between multimedia sources such as DVD players, set-top boxes, or media servers and display devices such as a flat-panel LCD TVs, including High-Definition TV (HD-TV), LCD plasma, and the newly released portable displays already in volume production today. Atheros and Adimos collaborated on the WVM module, incorporating an Atheros chipset with an Adimos ADM100 multimedia processor to deliver unparalleled video performance over WLAN. The breakthrough solution allows consumers to view video content with Best Picture(TM) quality available anywhere in the home, eliminating the restrictions of display placement near existing wiring. A future where consumers can hang flat-panel TVs on walls like a picture frame, and carry portable TVs around the house while simultaneously viewing content, is now a reality. "Adimos' goal is to enhance the consumer experience by enabling consumer electronics OEMs to introduce innovative, high-quality products with faster time to market and reduced cost. We're proud to be the only 802.11a wireless multimedia solution ramping in volume production with multiple consumer electronics manufacturers this year," said Bill Hoppin, VP of sales and marketing for Adimos. "After surveying many alternatives for 802.11a 5 GHz wireless technology, we chose Atheros, due to its technology leadership, ability to achieve the best link margin at a competitive price, and broad WLAN chipset road map aligned with end customer needs." "Atheros and Adimos share a similar vision to harness the advantages of 5 GHz and 802.11a to dramatically improve the quality, price and availability of wireless multimedia connectivity," said Michael Stauffer, director of business development at Atheros. "Our partnership is making this technology a reality for some of the largest consumer electronics manufacturers in the world." Adimos is dedicated to creating standards-based Best Picture(TM) wireless connectivity solutions for the home. The company intends to introduce next-generation products based on future Atheros chipsets next year designed to further enhance range and video bandwidth aligned with the cost, bandwidth, and range demands of many of the largest consumer electronics manufacturers in the world.
